Role & Responsibility :
A "FIPM" in pain management stands for "Fellowship in Interventional Pain Management," essentially signifying a medical professional who has completed specialized training in utilizing interventional procedures to treat chronic pain conditions, often including injections, nerve blocks, and spinal cord stimulation; their job description would involve comprehensive pain assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, performing interventional procedures, and managing patient care in a pain management clinic setting.
Key responsibilities of a FIPM pain management doctor may include:
Patient Evaluation:
- Performing thorough physical examinations, medical history reviews, and pain assessments to identify the source of chronic pain.
Treatment Planning:
- Designing personalized pain management plans incorporating medication management, physical therapy, lifestyle modifications, and interventional procedures as needed.
Interventional Procedures:
- Performing various guided injections like epidural injections, facet joint injections, trigger point injections, nerve blocks, and spinal cord stimulation procedures.
Diagnostic Procedures:
- Utilizing imaging modalities like fluoroscopy to accurately guide injections and diagnose pain generators.
Patient Education:
- Providing detailed information about pain conditions, treatment options, potential risks and benefits, and pain management techniques.
Collaboration:
- Working with other healthcare professionals like physical therapists, psychologists, and primary care physicians to ensure comprehensive pain management.
