Job Description :

Qualification:

- Successful completion of an MD in Anesthesia or equivalent from a university recognized by the Medical Council of India and at least 3 years post qualification experience.

Job Summary :

- The main focus on the care of surgical patients and pain relief.

- Like other physicians, they evaluate and treat patients and direct the efforts of those on their staffs.

- They confer with other physicians and surgeons about appropriate treatments and procedures before, during, and after operations.

- These critical care specialists are responsible for maintenance of the patient's vital life functions- heart rate, body temperature, blood pressure, breathing- through continual monitoring and assessment during surgery.

- They often work outside of the operating room, providing pain relief in the intensive care unit, during labor and delivery, and for those who suffer from chronic pain.

- Basically they care for a patient before, during and immediately following a surgical or medical procedure by administering appropriate anesthesia. They also monitoring the patient for reactions and complications, and to ensure comfort and manage pain.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

- Meets with the patient prior to the procedure to evaluate the patient's condition and review their medical history.

- The anesthesiologist also explains the process so the patient knows what to expect. During the procedure, the anesthesiologist carefully monitors the patient's vital signs and comfort and makes the appropriate adjustments in anesthesia.

- Following the procedure, the anesthesiologist continues to monitor the patient's vitals and may be involved in management of pain.

- Management of patients rendered unconscious or insensible to pain and emotional stress during surgical, obstetrical and certain other medical procedures, including preoperative, intra operative and postoperative evaluation and treatment, the support of life functions and vital organs under the stress of anesthetic, surgical and other medical procedures, management of problems in pain relief, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, pulmonary care, supervision of patients in post-anesthesia care units and critically ill patients in special care units.
