Consultant - Duty Doctor - MBBS/MS/DNB/DGO (0-3 yrs)
Qualification: MBBS, MS (Gyn& Obs) / DNB/DGO
Role & responsibilities
The Duty Doctor cum Consultant (Gyn & Obs) is responsible for providing comprehensive obstetric and gynaecological care, managing emergency and routine cases, and ensuring high-quality patient care during assigned shifts. The role involves clinical decision-making, patient management, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Duties
- Examine, diagnose, and treat patients with gynaecological and obstetric conditions
- Manage OPD and IPD patients
- Conduct antenatal and postnatal check-ups
- Handle labour room duties including normal and assisted deliveries
- Perform or assist in C-sections and other gynecological surgeries (as per credentialing)
2. Emergency & Critical Care
- Attend obstetric and gynaecological emergencies (e.g., ectopic pregnancy, PPH, eclampsia)
- Provide immediate life-saving interventions and stabilize patients
- Coordinate with ICU/NICU teams when required
3. Patient Management
- Maintain accurate patient records and case sheets
- Counsel patients and families regarding treatment plans, risks, and outcomes
- Ensure informed consent and ethical medical practices
4. Coordination & Teamwork
- Work closely with nursing staff, anesthetists, pediatricians, and other specialists
- Participate in ward rounds and case discussions
- Support junior doctors and interns
5. Administrative Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with hospital protocols and clinical guidelines
- Maintain documentation as per legal and accreditation standards (NABH)
- Participate in audits, CMEs, and quality improvement initiatives
6. On-call / Shift Duties
- Be available for rotational shifts, night duties, and emergency calls
- Ensure continuous patient care during assigned duty hours
