Job Roles of a Medical Oncologist

1. Evaluate and diagnose patients with various types of cancers through clinical assessments, imaging studies, and laboratory investigations.

2. Collaborate with surgical oncologists, medical officers, and other specialists to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care.

3. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy etc based on the type and stage of cancer.

4. Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress, side effects, and laboratory results to ensure optimal outcomes.

5. Conduct outpatient and inpatient consultations to assess new cases, review follow- ups, and address treatment complications or side effects.

6. Provide expert input during meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions for complex or high-risk cases.

7. Supervise and mentor medical officers and nursing staff under the guidance of HOD, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and best practices in oncology care.

8. Train and guide junior staff, trainees, and allied health professionals on cancer management, treatment techniques, and patient care practices.

9. Perform regular ward rounds in the patient admitting wards to monitor the condition of hospitalized patients undergoing cancer treatment or managing treatment-related complications.
