- Oversees the patient's diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of occupational illnesses and/or injury.

- Prepares patients for return to work after illness or injury or may act as a consultant to identify workplace health hazards.

- Examines patients to determine the appropriate course of treatment

- Recommends tests to determine extent of illness or help diagnose condition.

Requires a degree in medicine from an accredited school of medicine, and is licensed to practice medicine.

- May require at least 2-4 years of clinical experience in occupational medicine.

- May report to a medical director. Years of experience may be unspecified.

- Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.
