Job Title: Emergency Department Charge Nurse (3+ Years Experience)

Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Emergency Department Charge Nurse with a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience to oversee the daily operations and delivery of patient care in our busy Emergency Department (ED). The Charge Nurse will serve as a leader, coordinating and managing the nursing team, ensuring the efficient flow of patients, and providing clinical expertise in emergency care. This role requires a professional who is skilled in patient assessment, decision-making, and emergency response, with the ability to manage stressful situations effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Supervision:

Supervise and coordinate the nursing team in the Emergency Department, ensuring proper staffing levels, delegation of responsibilities, and effective team collaboration.

Provide direction and mentorship to nursing staff, supporting their professional development and maintaining a positive work environment.

Serve as a liaison between physicians, staff, patients, and families, ensuring clear communication and high-quality patient care.

Conduct regular performance assessments, provide feedback, and participate in staff evaluations.

Patient Care Management:

Oversee patient triage and flow, ensuring that patients are prioritized and care is provided in a timely and efficient manner.

Provide direct patient care when necessary, including administering medications, performing procedures, and responding to critical situations.

Ensure compliance with all hospital protocols, policies, and best practices in patient care and safety.

Maintain accurate patient records, including assessments, interventions, and outcomes.

Clinical Expertise & Decision-Making:

Apply advanced clinical judgment to assess, diagnose, and implement treatment plans for patients in the emergency setting.

Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive care plans for patients with complex or critical conditions.

Respond to emergency situations swiftly and decisively, managing high-acuity cases effectively under pressure.

Operational Oversight:

Manage the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Department, including overseeing patient intake, admissions, and discharge processes.

Ensure that all equipment and supplies are stocked, functional, and available for use in emergency care.

Monitor department performance metrics and assist with quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.

Assist in the development, implementation, and review of departmental policies and procedures.

Education & Professional Development:

Stay up-to-date with the latest clinical practices, medical technologies, and emergency care protocols.

Lead in-service training sessions and educational programs for staff to improve clinical skills and emergency preparedness.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning within the department.

Qualifications:

Education:

Registered Nurse (RN) with an active, unrestricted license in the state of employment.

Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in an Emergency Department or acute care setting.

Prior experience in a leadership or charge nurse role is highly preferred.

Strong understanding of emergency care protocols, triage systems, and critical care procedures.

Skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and resolve conflicts effectively.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in high-stress situations.

Proficient in the use of electronic health records (EHR) systems and basic office software.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, move, or assist patients as necessary.

Standing, walking, and remaining on your feet for long periods.

Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

The Emergency Department operates 24/7, so flexibility in scheduling is required, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
