Job Description

- Review the Pre-anesthetic assessment and preparation of the patients done by juniors

- Provision of clinical anesthesia services in operation theatre both routine and emergency

- Supervision of management of post-anesthetic care, including surgical ICU care delivered by juniors such as monitoring including clinical observations, pain relief, fluid therapy, respiratory therapy, adverse effects with may be related to anesthesia, preoperative medical problems

- Supervision of paramedical staffs in OT and ICU

- Supervision and auditing of Acute resuscitation services for the hospital run by resuscitation team CODE BLUE team

- Consultative services for pre-anesthetic assessment and management.

- To ensure, when relevant, the patient and/or relatives are aware of the outcome and consequences of anesthesia.

- Such other clinical services as necessary and appropriate to the specialty

To provide advisory services in relation to the quality required for the safe practice of anesthesia (including staffing considerations and staff training) to:

- Hospital Authority

- Hospital Departments

- Hospital Clinical management groups

- Individual hospital staff groups or individuals

- Other organizations are required

Administrative and managerial duties:

- Provision of a departmental staff roster.

- Management of leave arrangements within the department

- Staff development review processes.

- Provision of regular departmental meetings for news dissemination.

- Participation in hospital meetings, Hospital Authority meetings, intra-departmental meetings

Educational Duties (SUPERVISION)

Teaching

- Anesthesiologists in training

- Students and nursing staff

- Operating department assistants

- Members of all allied health professions when requested

Continuing medical education:

- Participation in regular weekly departmental educational activities.

- Regular attendance at/or participation in related scientific conferences and commissioned training sessions.

- Weekly journal reading

- Study leave overseas, with attachments to anesthetic institute of excellence

- Continuous quality improvement processes

- To ensure that the adverse effects which may be related to anesthesia are recognized, manage appropriately and subjected to quality assurance and peer review process

- Maintain environment for safe anesthesia practice

- Contribute to activities of professional associations

- To undertake or supervise research in anesthesia in an organized manner where appropriate

- Advising resident doctors to continue / discontinue earlier prescribed medicine and advise additional treatment, if any.

- Monitoring the progress of the patient.

- Advising resident doctors for discharge of the patient & scrutinizing discharge summary.

- Advising patient for investigation if required.

- Based out of investigation report treatment of patient should be done.

- Referring serious patients out of our control to higher centre(spoke)

- Referring patients to other consultants of other specialties within Fortis hospitals, if required.

- Strictly adhering to the medical ethics & management rules & regulations

- Assists the Head of Department/ Medical Director for:

- Special material management requirement

- Ensure quality of performance of the department

- Ensure optimum utilization of resources by the him/her and subordinates

- Complaint redressal of patients

Co-ordinate on all matters relating to

- Provision of infrastructure and maintenance support

- Selection of type and nature of medical consumables and equipment to be procured

- Ensure that equipment in the department is functioning satisfactorily or will take necessary corrective action to ensure this

Any other tasks assigned by the HOD/ management from time to time
