Job Description

Ward

I. GENERAL CARE OF THE PATIENT :

- Responsible for co-ordinating during admission and discharge of patient.

- Responsible for providing assistance and instructions to patients and their relatives.

- Responsible for taking care of personal hygiene of the patients (bathing, mouth wash, pressure points etc.).

- Responsible for Bed making for patient.

- Responsible for feeding patients.

- Responsible for giving and removing of urinals, bed pans, ice bags etc.

II. TECHNICAL NURSING CARE OF THE PATIENT :

- Responsible for preparing and administration of medicines, injections, I/V injections etc..

- Recording of medications and vital signs monitoring.

- Responsible for taking round with the doctors (resident) and carry out orders.

- Responsible for preparation for and assistance in clinical tests and medical procedure.

- Responsible for providing pre and post operative care.

- Responsible for collecting and despatching all type of specimen to concerned lab.

- Responsible for giving and receiving reports.

- Responsible for escorting patients to/from departments and sometimes out of the hospital.

III. WARD MANAGEMENT :

- Responsible for handing over and taking over charge of shift.

- Responsible for maintaining proper inventories and care of equipments and linen.

- Responsible for keeping the ward clean and tidy.

IV. GENERAL :

- Responsible for supervision of junior staff nurse, nurse aid, GDAs.

- Responsible for assistance in orientation of new staff nurse.

- Responsible for taking participation in professional activities.

- Responsible for taking participation in staff education and staff meeting.

- Responsible for proper reporting to the seniors.

- Responsible for any other duty that may be assigned from time to time.

- Operation Theater

- She/He is responsible for the complete nursing care of the patient.

- Responsible for collection of equipments/instruments and linen for the operation planned.

- Responsible for gowning and gloving.

- Responsible for prepare trolley and patient.

- Responsible for checking patients identity with the Name/Reg. No., case file and operation list.

- Responsible for handling skin preparation agents and swabs on holder to the surgeons.

- Responsible for assisting in draping of the patient positioning mayo table.

- Responsible for arranging diathermy and saw motor.

- Responsible for anticipating the needs of surgical team.

- Responsible for keeping an accurate count of instruments sponges, swabs, collected during the operation.

- Responsible for maintaining aseptic technique.

- Responsible for maintaining discipline.

- Accountable for confirming that all instruments, swabs, sponges are accounted.

- Responsible for removing instruments from trolley and to be washed properly.

- Responsible for maintaining proper disposal system for sharp instruments and other items.

- Responsible for sending all items for sterilization to CSSD.

- Responsible for completing entries in the OT register.

Cath Lab.

A. General care of the patients :

1. Responsible for co-ordinating during admission, receiving, transferring /discharging patients to and from cath lab.

2. Responsible for providing assistance to patients and their relatives.

3. Responsible for meeting personal hygiene of the patients.

4. Responsible for giving and removing urinal/bed pan.

5. Responsible for bed making.

6. Responsible for feeding patients.

B. Technical Nursing care of the patients :

1. Responsible for preparing and administration of medicines and injections.

2. Responsible for recording of medications.

3. Responsible for taking and charting pulse, respiration and blood pressure.

4. Responsible for preparation for and assistance in cath lab procedures.

5. Responsible for providing Pre, during and post procedure care.

6. Accountable for collecting and dispatching all type of specimen to the concerned lab.

7. Responsible for escorting patients to/from departments.

8. Responsible for giving and receiving reports.

C. Ward Management :

1. Responsible for handling over and taking over charge of shift.

2. Responsible for maintaining proper inventories.

3. Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and tidiness of the cath lab.

4. Responsible for taking care of equipment and line.

D. Miscellaneous :

1. Responsible for supervision of nurse aid and GDAs.

2. Responsible for providing assistance in orientation of nurse aid and GDAs.

3. Responsible for taking participation in staff meeting.

4. Responsible for proper reporting to the seniors.

5. Responsible for any other duty that may be assigned from time to time.
