Job Title: ICU Charge Nurse (3+ Years Experience)

Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced ICU Charge Nurse with at least 3 years of critical care nursing experience to take on a leadership role in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The ICU Charge Nurse will provide expert clinical oversight, coordinate patient care activities, and manage the nursing team to ensure that high-quality, compassionate care is delivered to critically ill patients. This role involves leadership, staff supervision, and operational management, in addition to direct patient care when needed. The ideal candidate will be skilled in critical care nursing and possess strong decision-making and communication skills, with the ability to manage complex patient situations and lead a multidisciplinary team in a high-pressure environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Staff Supervision:

Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the ICU, ensuring that nursing staff are appropriately assigned to meet patient care needs.

Lead, mentor, and support nursing staff in providing high-quality care while promoting a positive work environment and fostering teamwork.

Conduct shift handovers, ensuring seamless communication regarding patient status, care plans, and important updates.

Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and provide clinical guidance to ensure smooth operations.

Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new ICU nursing staff.

Patient Care & Clinical Oversight:

Oversee the management of critically ill patients, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and coordinating interventions with the multidisciplinary care team.

Ensure that care plans are followed, modified as necessary, and that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date.

Respond promptly to changes in patient conditions, and escalate care needs as necessary to physicians or other healthcare providers.

Provide direct care when necessary, including assisting with invasive procedures, managing life-support equipment, and administering critical medications.

Maintain a high level of expertise in managing life-threatening conditions, including multi-organ failure, respiratory failure, shock, and sepsis.

Operational & Resource Management:

Oversee ICU operations, ensuring appropriate patient flow, bed management, and timely interventions for admissions, transfers, and discharges.

Ensure that necessary medical equipment is available, functioning, and properly maintained, and that nursing supplies are well-stocked.

Monitor the quality of care provided in the ICU, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices, hospital protocols, and regulatory standards.

Actively participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, including conducting patient rounds, audits, and reviewing clinical outcomes.

Collaboration & Communication:

Act as a liaison between physicians, multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families to facilitate communication and ensure high-quality, coordinated care.

Lead family meetings to discuss patient prognosis, treatment options, and care decisions in collaboration with the healthcare team.

Resolve any conflicts or concerns that arise among staff, patients, or families, ensuring a professional and compassionate approach.

Ensure that all team members are aware of patient care goals and progress during shift changes and interdepartmental handoffs.

Education & Professional Development:

Provide ongoing education and support to ICU nursing staff on critical care practices, new technologies, and safety protocols.

Identify opportunities for continuing education and staff development, and lead in-service training to enhance clinical competencies.

Stay current with the latest research and advancements in critical care, and promote evidence-based practices within the ICU.

Foster a culture of lifelong learning and professional growth, encouraging staff to pursue certifications and advanced training.

Qualifications:

Education:

Registered Nurse (RN) with an active, unrestricted license in the state of employment.

Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) optional; Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or related field optional

diploma degree is also fine

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of direct nursing experience in an ICU or critical care setting.

Prior leadership or charge nurse experience is highly preferred.

Expertise in the management of critically ill patients, including those requiring mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, and invasive procedures.

Skills:

Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to act swiftly and appropriately in high-stress situations.

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage a team and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare providers.

Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, manage time well, and delegate appropriately in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR), patient monitoring systems, and other clinical software.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, move, and assist patients as necessary.

Ability to stand for long periods and work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.

Must be able to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed in a 24/7 ICU setting.

Work Environment:

The ICU operates in a high-acuity, high-intensity environment requiring close monitoring and critical interventions.

Shift work is required, with flexibility for night shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Must be comfortable working with patients who have complex medical conditions and may require life-saving interventions.
