1. Harvesting and Slide Preparation : Harvests specimens and prepares slides for both Chromosome and FISH studies. Harvests at appropriate time according to laboratory protocols.

2. Obtains slides for Chromosome/FISH analysis with adequate number of good quality mitotic cells.

3. Specimen Setup: Under minimal supervision, sets up complex clinical laboratory specimens for cytogenetic/FISH tests.

4. Handles high volume of work with appropriate speed and assists less experienced coworkers.

- Sets up specimens according to laboratory protocols following general sterile techniques.

5. Checks to see if referrals are appropriate and complete. Informs appropriate individual if specimen not adequate or unusable. Sets up special studies according to laboratory protocol.

6. Maintains a safe and clean working environment; adhering to all safety procedures.

7. Follows laboratory policies, procedures, and guidelines

8. Performs job duties in an efficient and organized manner within required time frame

9. Stores and handles specimens according to procedures or instructions provided by the Cytogenetic Technologist

Desired Skills :

1. Bachelors or Medical Laboratory Technician certification or equivalent scientific education with at least 1-year experience in wet lab techniques

2. Experience in handling various instruments, such as microscopes, centrifuges, incubators and micro-pipettes.

3. Experience in Microsoft Excel is preferred, not required.

4. Able to learn new techniques, instrumentations, and job functions as appropriate to credentials and/or training
