Basic Role Expectations

Position : Medical Head

Location: Gujarat ( Navsari ) Upcoming Hospital

The duties to be undertaken as Medical Head will be as per the details below:

Leadership :

- Collaborating with Clinical and non-clinical departments, medical staff leadership, faculty and other affiliated services (inside and outside of the hospital) to ensure an integrated approach to providing services, and fulfilling the hospital's clinical, operational, research and educational goals and objectives.

- Responsible for all aspects of functioning of Associate Consultant / Junior Consultant/ Senior Registrars / Registrars / Sr. Residents / Residents.

- Responsible for all aspects of functioning of all Paramedical technicians (including Physiotherapy) in the hospital.

- Developing a framework to implement strategy into clinical operations

- Working through the management team and medical leadership of the hospital, serving as a resource to help reduce costs, achieve effective utilization and quality goals and objectives, analyze and utilize information to develop and support management decisions

- Follow-up on decisions made in management meetings and ensure proper execution

- Responsible for providing operational leadership in Clinical areas and daily planning of the hospital

- Providing direction and administration of clinical aspects of hospital activities to ensure quality patient care

- Ensure Co-ordination amongst departments to ensure the highest level of patient satisfaction.

- Responsible for ensuring effective communication on the hospital vision, goals & policies among clinical stake holders.

- Maintains a close & consistent oversight on engaging, monitoring & reviewing clinical contracts & ensuring that the respective HODs periodically capture the relevant quality data & integrates the same into their quality monitoring program.

- Oversees adherence to Company code of conduct & Service Rules.

Strategy & Planning :

Driving key Change and Transformation initiatives in clinical areas

- Recommends and participates in the development of hospital policies and procedures; may serve on hospital planning and policy-making committees

- Developing new business strategies to enhance market share and improve overall performance

- Business planning, formulate the pricing strategy of various products and service offerings

- Control all medical resources/decide its dynamic deployments and help prepare short and long-term corporate / perspective plans

- Understanding barriers impacting patient volume growth. Recommend and deliver action plans to overcome them.

- Establishes hospital operational strategies by evaluating trends, determining quality and patient service strategies.

- Consultants Connect and high degree of engagement.

Periodic speciality review.

- Fostering Academic Excellence and Research activities

- Consultant hiring and retention

- Aligning Consultants/Specialties to the larger organizational business needs

- Jointly with the Marketing Department facilitates specialty-specific business promotion initiatives and reviews objectively.

- Enforces the Ethical framework of the Organization.

- Put in place a responsibility matrix for area specific statutes.

- Caters to overall Risk Mitigation plans of the Organization.

Clinical Operations :

- Directs the overall daily clinical operations of the facility to ensure smooth day to day functioning of the hospital, execution of company policies including healthcare policy

- Ensure compliance with hospital, local, state, and federal regulations, accreditation and licensure requirements and continuous quality improvement programs

- Directs and oversees the day-to-day operations of the facility, billing, credit and collection, receipting, finance and accounting and information systems

- Facilitates resolution of issues between departments

- Conduct regular reviews of department performance and decide on actions required as a result

- Conducts daily rounds to ensure patient satisfaction, resolve service /quality/ issues with follow through

- Coordinates the handling of VIP and HWC patients, and receiving of visiting dignitaries

- Design and implement patient flow of clinical processes for inpatients and outpatient services

- Accomplishes clinic staff results by communicating expectations, planning, monitoring and appraising results, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies and procedures.

- Coordinates with other departments to ensure implementation of his/her department strategies / policies.

- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

- Ascertains a credible criteria for studying Consultant Satisfaction Index.

- Serves and protects the hospital by adhering to clinical standards, hospital policies and procedures.

- Advises Top leadership on potential risk/ high risk situations.

- Hardwires processes & SOPs and holds people accountable.

- Human Resource Related including Retention & Development:

- Models organization core values and promote translation of these values into work practices

- Responsible for creating and maintaining a professional and good work environment that supports the wellbeing of both medical and paramedical staff in all the existing departments

- Identifying and overcoming complacency by constantly improving the functional abilities

- Plans, directs, monitors and appraises the performance of his key executives and drives their performance towards outstanding results. Conducts performance appraisal, identify training needs and recommend increments / promotions for non-clinical personnel

- Encourages and develop team members- multi-functionality.

- Identifies and nominates team members for training programs that would enhance knowledge, skills and to shape the attitudes required for development of self, functional and multi-functional abilities and capabilities

- Specifically caters to the Consultant's upskilling needs in collaboration with Vendors/Universities/Professional forums and putting a framework to the same.

Finance Related:

- Contribute in the development and management of annual budgets for the operating departments and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses

- Conducts feasibility studies, recommends fee schedules based on cost, monitors revenue and expenditure trends, and makes recommendations for cost-effective operations

- Oversees reimbursement activities, including billing and collection; manages financial and information systems

- Analyzing the financials of the company, identifying strengths and weaknesses, taking suitable action, suggesting remedies etc.

- Direct supervision on Tariff fixation and costing in coordination with the clinical leadership.

- Plays a key support role in the formulation of company's policies which have financial implications

- Takes all steps and do all such things to safe guard the Revenue and Assets of the company

- Finding ways to reduce operating costs and enhance revenues ensuring high quality healthcare is delivered while maintaining a reasonable cost structure

- Improves upon TAT, Discharge Timings, OT Utilization, reduction of /medication/billing errors, reduction of billing discounts.

Quality :

- Accomplishes quality assurance / hospital objectives by establishing standards and procedures; measuring results against plans and standards; evaluating and improving methods and making required changes.

- Maintains high-quality standards for the organization and implementing quality initiatives; identifying problems through statistical analysis; monitoring and reporting results of action taken to reduce risk to patients.

- Ensures comprehensive NABH Compliance.

- Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of Quality accreditations and when necessary, initiate changes and improvements to ensure continued compliance quality standards are maintained

- To direct and facilitate continuous quality improvement initiatives and activities. Contribute ideas and action plans for quality improvement

- Maintains high-quality standards for the organization and implementing quality initiatives, maintains unusual occurrence by helping with the monitoring of unusual occurrences, identifying problems through statistical analysis, monitoring and reporting results of action taken to reduce risks to patients

- Should be aware of Healthcare Policy laid down by the organization as per Quality Standards

Corporate Affairs:

- Reports on administrative aspects of Clinical operations to the senior Administration.

- Takes active part in the Audit Committee meetings; give clarifications on queries raised by the members on all related matters

External Liaison:

- Creates understanding and positive image of the company by building relationships with and providing information to the financial community, Government agencies, media and the public, building credibility with stakeholders, building employee commitment to the organization

- Builds relationships with other fellow colleagues in the hospital industry and other key members of society.

 
- Actively networks with his/her contemporaries in other industry to stay abreast of latest developments and initiatives.

- Maintains professional relation with all external professional agencies/contact people

- Represent the Hospital/ Group at various external platforms/forums as and when required.

Legal & Compliance:

- Accepts accountability for legal and statutory compliances applicable in the medical areas.

- To stay up-to-date with all statutory requirements. Develop and implement mechanism to ensure statutory compliance of all medical functions.

- Coordinates legal matters including consumer court cases with Consultants and Company Secretary.

Other aspects

- Overall management of Diagnostics, ER, Wards, ICUs, HDUs, OTs, OPDs and other areas.

- Ensures that training is imparted as per requirement of NABH Standards.

- Responsible for Statutory Compliance for areas under purview

- Is a lead member of various clinical and non-clinical committees in the hospitals.

- Any other work as assigned
