Job Description :

As a Pathologist based in Chennai, you will play a critical role in diagnosing diseases and disorders through the examination of tissues, cells, and bodily fluids. Your expertise in pathology will contribute to patient care, research, and public health initiatives, making a significant impact on healthcare outcomes in the community.

Key Responsibilities :

Diagnostic Pathology : Perform microscopic examination and analysis of tissue samples, blood specimens, and other biological fluids to diagnose diseases, including cancer, infections, and autoimmune disorders. Interpret laboratory findings accurately and communicate results to referring physicians and healthcare teams.

Surgical Pathology : Evaluate surgical specimens obtained during biopsies, surgeries, and other invasive procedures to determine the nature and extent of diseases, provide prognostic information, and guide treatment decisions.

Cytopathology : Assess cellular samples obtained through methods such as fine-needle aspiration (FNA) or Pap smears to detect abnormalities indicative of cancer, infection, or other pathological conditions. Issue cytology reports with detailed interpretations and recommendations.

Clinical Consultation : Collaborate with clinical colleagues, including physicians, surgeons, and oncologists, to discuss diagnostic findings, offer expert opinions, and provide recommendations for patient management and treatment planning.

Quality Assurance : Ensure compliance with laboratory quality assurance and quality control protocols, including proficiency testing, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the accuracy and reliability of laboratory testing.

Research and Development : Engage in research activities to advance knowledge in the field of pathology, including participation in clinical trials, publication of scientific articles, and presentation of findings at conferences and scientific meetings.

Education and Training : Provide teaching and training to medical students, residents, and laboratory staff in the principles and practice of pathology. Mentor junior pathologists and support their professional development.

Healthcare Administration : Contribute to administrative functions within the pathology department, such as workflow management, resource allocation, and strategic planning. Collaborate with hospital administration to optimize laboratory services and ensure efficient patient care.

Qualifications :

- Medical degree (MBBS) with specialization in Pathology (MD/DNB) from a recognized institution.

- Valid registration with the Medical Council of India (MCI) or Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC).

- 4-10 years of post-qualification experience in diagnostic pathology, with proficiency in surgical pathology and cytopathology preferred.

- Strong diagnostic skills and proficiency in interpreting histopathological and cytological specimens.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
