Role Overview:

The Pulmonologist provides specialized care for respiratory and critical care conditions, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and collaborates with hospital teams to ensure evidence-based, high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

- Diagnose and manage respiratory conditions including asthma, COPD, pneumonia, interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary infections.

- Perform procedures such as bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, pleural biopsy, and lung function testing.

- Manage critically ill patients in ICU requiring mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, or other respiratory support.

- Interpret laboratory investigations, imaging studies (X-ray, CT, MRI), and pulmonary function tests.

- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including ICU staff, nurses, and other specialists for comprehensive care.

- Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and manage acute respiratory emergencies.

- Maintain accurate patient records, procedural notes, and documentation in HIS/EMR systems.

- Ensure adherence to hospital infection control, safety, and procedural protocols.

- Mentor junior doctors, residents, and interns in pulmonology practices.

- Stay updated with latest developments, guidelines, and interventions in pulmonary medicine and critical care.

Key Skills & Competencies:

- Expertise in respiratory medicine, critical care, and diagnostic procedures.

- Proficiency in bronchoscopy, mechanical ventilation, and ICU respiratory management.

- Strong decision-making, critical care, and emergency response skills.

- Knowledge of hospital workflows, ICU protocols, and documentation standards.

- Effective communication and teamwork with multidisciplinary hospital teams.

Qualification & Experience:

- Education: MBBS with MD/DNB in Pulmonology; DM in Critical Care or Pulmonology preferred.

- Experience: 3-7 years in hospital pulmonology, ICU, and interventional procedures.

- Certifications: BLS mandatory; ACLS desirable; advanced critical care certification preferred.
