Role Overview

The Ward Nurse is responsible for delivering safe, evidence-based nursing care to admitted patients, ensuring clinical accuracy, patient safety, and adherence to hospital standards. The role demands technical competence, professional discipline, and effective collaboration with the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide comprehensive nursing care including monitoring vitals, administering medications, IV therapy, wound management, and catheterization.

- Observe, record, and report patient condition changes to doctors/consultants promptly.

- Support diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor bedside procedures.

- Ensure aseptic practices, infection control, and biomedical waste segregation.

- Operate and monitor ward medical equipment such as infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, oxygen delivery systems, and suction devices.

- Maintain accurate nursing documentation and patient records.

- Educate patients and caregivers on treatment plans, recovery, and discharge care.

- Assist during Code Blue and emergencies, performing BLS/ALS as required.

- Coordinate with doctors, RMOs, physiotherapists, and allied health staff for integrated patient management.

- Supervise junior staff/attendants, ensuring ward discipline and workflow.

- Manage ward inventory of medicines and consumables, ensuring availability.

- Comply with hospital quality, NABH, and safety protocols.

Key Skills & Competencies

- Strong clinical skills in ward nursing and emergency response.

- Proficiency in IV cannulation, drug administration, catheter insertion, wound care.

- Skilled in operating ward equipment and ensuring patient safety.

- Knowledge of infection prevention and hospital safety standards.

- Effective communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.

Qualification & Experience

- Education: GNM / B.Sc. Nursing with valid Nursing Council registration.

- Experience: 1- 3 years in a ward setting preferred.

- Certifications: BLS required, ACLS desirable.
