Senior Resident Doctor - Pulmonology & Critical care - Hospital - MD (0-1 yrs)

- Initial assessment and management of every patient coming to Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), starting the treatment and communicating the condition of the patient to the consultant.

- Management of patients in Medical Intensive Care Unit(MICU) including performing procedures like Intubation,Central venous pressure line placement, Arterial line placement, thoracocentesis, ascitic tapping,percutaneous Tracheostomy,Epidural Catheter Placement for pain relief, Temporary Pacemaker Insertion and Ventilatory management including Weaning

- Assisting in bedside procedures including providing standby anesthesia in procedures like upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, surgical Tracheostomy and bronchoscopy

- To provide medical treatment of the critically ill patient in a shift duty coverage System

- To be present at all relevant clinical rounds.

- To follow departmental guidelines relating to routine clinical duties in the ICU

- To be available to supervisors and medical colleagues for liaison regarding patient Care.

- To provide acute resuscitation for trauma and other emergencies including central venous cannulation and difficult intubation in Triage and HDU when requested

- To provide transport of critically ill patients when requested

- To be aware of unit admission and discharge criteria.

- To be aware of unit administration policy.

- S.M.O on duty is required to answer the attendants queries and to keep them updated in case of any fresh development in their patients condition.

- Communicate any deterioration in the patients status to the respective consultant and to ensure that the consultants orders are carried out appropriately.

- Arranging rooms/beds for patients

- To be involved in the unit administrative duties eg. Audit, Peer Review, Quality Assurance

- Support/help in research

- Treat & manage the / In patients

- Maintain a patient log book/ records

- Monitor daily outdating. To review all use as needed and discuss problems with consultant.


- To assist with review of patient's medical records as part of quality assurance studies. Gather data for quality assurance studies.

- Actively participate in presentations of CMEs and Journal clubs. Assist the consultant

- To complete patient history form, visit patient and review medical record. Obtain relevant clinical information for inclusion in report

Assists the Consultant for:

- Special material management requirement

- Ensure quality of performance of the department

- In all emergency cases in scheduling of cases and coordinating the department activities

- To co-ordinate the Inter and Intra-departmental activities in research, camps, presentations, referral reply to doctors etc

- To be an in-house consultant for all emergency situations encountered in the hospital.

- Interaction with patient attendants to brief them about current status, anticipated recovery and any other specific issues or problems.

- Supervise all nursing/ paramedical & non medical staff of the department to maintain discipline and high standard of medical care at the department as per standard operating procedure

- Any other tasks assigned by the HOD/ management from time to time.
