ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : 

Types of Surgical Nurses : 

- Surgical nurses fall into three main categories: scrub nurse, circulating nurse and RN first assistant. Each plays a very different but equally important role. Scrub nurses pass the surgeon tools, sponges and other surgical equipment. 

- RN first assistants play a more hands-on role, by monitoring patient vital signs, suturing incisions and performing emergency care such as controlling bleeding, performing CPR or administering drugs to control blood pressure. 

- Circulating nurses don- t directly participate in the operation. Instead, they oversee nursing care and ensure the operating room is clean, sterile and safe.

Duties : 

- The duties for surgical nurses begin well before the operation. They often start by meeting with patients and their families prior to surgery and explaining the procedure and expected recovery time. 

- They also sterilize and set up surgical tools, prepare the operating room and help other members of the surgical team put on sterile gowns, gloves and masks. 

- In addition, they clean and prepare the incision site. Following the operation, they bandage and stitch up wounds and incisions, transport the patient to the recovery room and monitor him as he awakens from anesthesia. 

- They continue to provide care until the patient is transferred to another unit, such as intensive care, or discharged from the hospital.

- A surgical nurse, also referred to as a theatre nurse or scrub nurse, specializes in preoperative care, providing care to patients before, during and after surgery. To become a theatre nurse, Registered Nurses or Enrolled Nurses must complete extra training. There are different speciality areas that theatre nurses can focus in depending on which areas they are interested in.

- There are many different phases during surgery where the theatre nurse is needed to support and assist the patient, surgeons, surgical technicians, nurse anaesthetists and nurse practitioners.

- Pre-operative, the nurse must help to prepare the patient and operating room for the surgery. During the surgery, they assist the anaesthetist and surgeons when they are needed. 

- The last phase is post-operative, enduring that the patients are provided with suitable care and treatments.

- People who want to become surgical nurses attend nursing school and specialize in surgical nursing. They are often required to pass examinations administered by the government or by nursing certification boards before being allowed to work as nurses, and they may also be expected to attend periodic continuing education classes so that they keep up with developments in the nursing field

ELIGIBILITY CRIETERIA : 

1. Age: 21-49 yrs.

2. Qualification : Candidate should be graduate/diploma holder in relevant field.

3. Experience- Minimum 2 years of experience in relevant field.

4. Good communication skills (mandatory)

5. Clients should have sufficient funds to sustain in country. Eg: Real Estate Property, Bank Balance Bank Deposits, FD, PPF.

- IELTS not mandatory in Hongkong
